One morning at 2 a.m., several women and I were in a downstairs room of our home typing a draft of “God’s Plan” to be used for a presentation the following day.  Bill had gone to bed because he faced a full schedule in the morning.

Suddenly, he came running down the stairs, telling us that the first law had to be rewritten.  Originally, the first law explained that people are sinful and need to repent before they can have a relationship with God.  At the time, that approach was common in Christian circles.  But Bioll wanted to begin with an emphasis on God’s love because he felt this is what draws people to God.  In fact, he believed that God’s love is the foremost principle of the universe.  So the first law became “God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.”

This law is not only true for the moment when you came to Christ and were forgiven of all your sins, but it is also the foundation for your Christian life.  That’s what makes our spiritual journey such an adventure of joy.  God’s love is the truth on which we can stake our lives.

For this is how God loved the world:  He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.  –John 3:16

This is real love—not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as a sacrifice to take away our sin.  –1 John 4:10

EDITORS NOTE:  More than 6,000,000,000 copies of the Four Spiritual Laws have been distributed and millions have begun a relationship with Jesus after reading the small Gospel message Vonette and her women warriors typed up on that late night so many years ago.  Bill Bright was widely criticized for his “audacious” decision to begin with God’s love and yet God blessed the decision exceedingly, abundantly beyond what most of us could ever dream.  Jesus started with the Father’s love, why shouldn’t we?
