For the first few years of D.L. Moody’s ministry, he complained of ineffectiveness. Then when Moody was in a state of despair, a fellow minister told him, “The world has yet to see what God will do with a man fully consecrated to Him.”
Moody resolved, “By the grace of God, I will be that man!”
D.L. Moody became a great evangelist whose ministry dominated the last four decades of the 19th century. Hundreds of thousands of people were touched by his preaching. He did become that man!
Dear friends, true effectiveness for Christ is achieved in his life when you totally surrender to God and to His matchless grace. Grace is for sinners. Grace has been defined by the acrostic GRACE. God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense. If you are not sensing His grace lifting the challenges of the day, it is not because you forget to tell Him at the start of each day that you are a sinner in need of His grace? With the Holy Spirit’s help, you will find the strength you need to live a life of fruitful abundance, even in the midst of the strongest opposition.
Sailors in the northern oceans frequently observe icebergs traveling in one direction in spite of strong winds blowing in the opposite direction. The icebergs are moving against the winds, but how? The explanation is that the icebergs, with eight-tenths of their bulk under them in a certain direction no atter which way the winds rage.
In the Christian life, no matter how strongly the winds of challenge blow in opposition, the believer who has a depth of living in the currents of God’s empowering grace will always move forward.
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
