Carol was a self-proclaimed worrier.  Even her ten-year-old daughter said her mother worried too much.  That’s when Carol found new perspective from a Bible story popularized in the movie The Prince of Egypt, which is about the life of Moses.

Jochebed, an Israelite and the mother of Moses, had plenty to worry about.  When Pharaoh ordered all newborn Israelite boys killed, Jochebed hid her infant son for three months.  She knew that she could not hide him forever if he was to have any kind of meaningful life.  So she developed a plan and took a chance.  Jochebed placed her son in. waterproof basket and sent him down the Nile River.  He was rescued by Pharaoh’s daughter.

In a miraculous turn, Jochebed was selected as the nurse for the child in Pharaoh’s household.  Eventually, the loving mother gave Moses to Pharaoh’s daughter to be her son.

Jochebed did all she could for her son, then released him.  She probably prayed all the while.

Carol learned how to deal with her worries from this ancient mother.  Can you identify with Jochebed or Carol?  We all go through times when worry seems to enslave us.  But you can have victory over this anxiety.  All you have to do is trust God—trust Him because He is all-knowing and all-powerful, and because He loves you.  In Romans 8:28, we read, “In all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”  He promises to work for our good.

The next time you are worried, remember that God is in control and that He is looking out for you.  Then make a conscious effort to stop worrying about things you can’t control and start trusting the God who controls all things.  You’ll live a more peaceful life.

Cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you.      —1 Peter 5:7
