God Doesn't Turn the Channel

One day, Mary was watching TV and happened upon a special news commentary on Somalia. Depressed at the whole situation, she flipped to another channel.
Suddenly, she was rebuked about her reaction. She thought, When God sees disaster, He doesn’t turn the channel. He doesn’t ignore the suffering in Somalia, and neither can I.
So, Mary flipped back to the channel, and there she saw something she’ll never forget—the picture of an infant trying to nurse from the breast of his dead mother.
Mary recalled, “Suddenly, God had my attention. I began to weep for the mothers of Somalia. I imagined having to hunt for food and run in the streets to get it for my children.”
Ten months later, she flew to Somalia herself and had the opportunity to share Christ with Muslim women there. Reaching out to women who didn’t know about Jesus, she reveled in bringing Living Water to thirsty Somalians.
You know what I love about Mary? She responded to the stirring in her heart and did something. God used her because she was willing to go and do whatever He asked of her.
In Matthew 10:8, Jesus says to His disciples and to us,
“Freely you have received, freely give.”
God has given us so many blessings at absolutely no cost to us, so we must do the same for others. This may include a simple gesture like giving up your seat for someone on a crowded bus or traveling around the world to feed hungry people.
Let’s be inspired by Mary’s example today. The next time opportunity knocks at your door, whether you’re in your living room, at the office, in the supermarket, or somewhere else, don’t turn the channel. Don’t look away. Do something!
If you do, you will become rich in a way you’ve never experienced before.
“Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”—1 Timothy 6:18
