A Warning

Surely our nation needs a visit from our great God in heaven. We need another Pentecost! Many Christian leaders across the country are warning that unless America turns from her wicked ways, she will self-destruct. I believe America is under judgment. God's judgment is not coming, it is already here. That is why a tidal wave of evil courses freely across our land.

In Scripture, God warns that He will discipline His people and bring judgment for continued disobedience:

"If you forget about the Lord your God and...follow evil ways, you shall certainly perish, just as the Lord has caused other nations in the past to perish" (Deuteronomy 8:19, TLB).

"I will bring evil upon this people; it will be the fruit of their own sin, because they will not listen to me" (Jeremiah 29:18, TLB).

"Now I say that each believer should confess his sins to God when he is aware of them, while there is time to be forgiven. Judgment will not touch him if he does" (Psalm 32:6, TLB).

Early one morning after three weeks of fasting, I received the assurance from God that He would visit America in transforming, revival power. I found myself overcome with tears of grati­tude. There are those who say God does not speak to you except from His written Word. Of course, the Word is the primary means by which He speaks. But He also talks to us by His Spirit within us (Philippians 2:13). His divine impres­sions are always consistent with His holy, inspired Word. God has never spoken to me audibly, and I am not given to prophecy. But that morning His message to me was unmistak­ably clear. 

Shortly before I reached the fortieth day of my fast, the Holy Spirit spoke to me in another tone. It seemed that God was now saying that His promise of revival was condi­tional.

I have spent fifty years study­ing God's Word and listening to His voice, and His message that day could not have been more clear.

As I knelt before the Lord at my favorite chair in our living room, I was sobered by the conditions which the Holy Spirit had placed on His promise to send revival. These conditions seemed to match the spirit of 2 Chronicles 7:14:

If my people, who are called by My name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

With this Scripture strongly in my mind, I sensed the Holy Spirit was telling me that millions of believers must seek God with all their hearts in fasting and prayer before He will intervene to save America. I was impressed by the Spirit to pray that two million believers will humble themselves by seeking God in forty-day fasts.

Again, I was duly impressed that God requires this great degree of seeking because of the desperate spiritual condition of our country....
