GOD is Holy
Bible Times Day 2 & 3
(Scroll down for Day 3)
DAY 2: GOD IS PERFECT, WE ARE NOT!
Memory Verse:
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty - the One who always was, who is, and who is still to come. Revelation 4:8
Key Verse:
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. - Romans 6:23
Read the lyrics of the song "Positively Clean" below:
POSITIVELY CLEAN!
If you take an . . .
Itsy, bitsy, teensy bit of slime
And put it in an ooh, ah
Clean, refreshing drink.
Stir it up and what do you find?
A drink that you would never want to try.
And if you do an . . .
Itsy, bitsy, teensy little sin
It doesn't matter how good you've been.
That itsy, bitsy, teensy little sin,
Is enough to make you never clean again.
You may ask, "What does it matter?"
A little white lie now and then.
After all, no one lives a perfect life.
Besides, I know
God loves me so
And He wants me in heaven with Him.
But . . .
There's no way that He could let you in --
Not with even just one tiny sin.
God is clean through and through,
and you know what one little sin would do!
That is why Jesus had to die.
There's no one else who could pay sin's price.
And if you accept His sacrifice,
He'll take away the guilt of your sin
And wash away the slime within.
It doesn't mean you'll live life perfectly
Though God will help you try to do what's right.
And He makes you this guarantee
That when you get to heaven you will be --
Totally,
Completely,
Absolutely,
Positively,
CLEAN!

Have you ever tasted water that wasn't clean, or milk that had turned sour? It doesn't taste very good, does it? Do you know why it tastes bad? It is not pure.
Let's say that God is like that pure glass of water: Perfect and Clean with nothing bad or rotten in Him whatsoever.
If we had a glass of water to show what we are like, would it be perfect, clean, and pure? No. It would be dark and clouded and filthy because our hearts are dirty and sinful. Would you want to drink a glass of water like that?
SIN IS BAD STUFF!
Do you know what "sin" is?
Sin is anything we do, say or even think that isn't totally good and right. It's like saying "No!" to God. Fighting, lying, arguing, cheating, disobeying, and mean thoughts are all examples of sin.
If we were to pour even a drop of dirty, filthy, rotten water from our glass into God's pure, clean glass, the dirty water would make the pure water dirty. It wouldn't be perfectly clean anymore.

Because God is Perfect and Clean He cannot allow us to make Him dirty with our sin. That means we are all separated from God because of our sin.

The Bible says:
For the wages (payment) of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. - Romans 6:23

The consequence for just one sin is death. Since we all sin, that's a big problem for us! Our bodies will all die someday, but even worse, our relationship with God is dead right now.

Fortunately, God made a way to solve the sin problem we all have:
But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ (Jesus) to die for us while we were still sinners. - Romans 5:8
Jesus, God's Son, paid our sin penalty by dying for our sin in our place.
WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Because God is Holy, He cannot -- will not -- allow sin in His presence. The Bible tells us that God is pure and cannot stand the sight of evil (Habakkuk 1:13). He cannot tolerate the sins of the wicked (Psalms 5:4). We need a Savior to make our dirty hearts clean!
TALK WITH GOD AND STAY CONNECTED TO THE VINE!
God is Holy. We are not. But God made a way for us to be friends with Him! You can tell God right now you are sorry for your sin. Thank Him that He paid for the consequences of your sin by dying in your place. (In Part 3 of this adventure, we will talk more about what we need to do to let God make our dirty hearts clean.)

DAY 3: GOD'S ANSWER FOR MY SIN PROBLEM!
Because GOD IS HOLY (Perfect and Clean), He is able to make my dirty heart clean. I want Him to help me keep it that way.
Memory Verse:
Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God, the Almighty - the One who always was, who is, and who is still to come. -Revelation 4:8
Key Verse:
But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God. -John 1:12
Listen to what happened to Adam and Eve:
In the beginning, God made the world and everything in it. He made light and water, the clouds and the sky, the plants and the trees, and every animal there ever was. He also made the sun, moon and stars. The last thing God made was a man and a woman, Adam and Eve.

God loved all of the things He had made. He especially loved spending time with Adam and Eve. In the evening, He would walk with them and talk about their day. They had nothing to hide from one another because God, being perfect, had made Adam and Eve perfect.

But one day, something dreadful happened. Adam and Eve disobeyed the one thing God had told them not to do. It was the first sin, ever, in the entire world.

That night, when God came to walk with Adam and Eve, they were hiding from Him. They were sad, afraid, and ashamed because of what they had done. God was sad, too. As a consequence, God could not spend time with Adam and Eve anymore. He banished them from the perfect home He had made for them and they had to work harder for the things they needed.
- Adapted from Genesis 1-3.

Can you imagine what a perfect world must have been like?
We were made to be friends with God. But when Adam and Eve sinned, the entire world changed. It was no longer perfect and clean because of dirty sin. Sin separates us from our perfect and clean God.
In Day 2 we learned that sin has a very serious consequence. Do you remember what that consequence is?
The Bible says:
For the wages of sin is death... -Romans 6:23
We have a sin problem! But since God is perfect, He never changes. He still wants to be our Friend, just like He wanted to be friends with Adam and Eve!
So, He made a way to fix our sin problem so we can be friends again:
For God loved the world so much that He gave His one and only Son (Jesus), so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. - John 3:16
Jesus, God's Holy Son, died for our sins in our place. He took care of our sin problem once and for all. And Jesus didn't just die; God proved He is the Biggest and the Strongest by bringing Jesus back from the dead!
Christ (Jesus) died for our sins, just as the Scriptures (the Bible) said. He was buried, and He was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. - 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
Because God is Perfect, He has the perfect answer to our sin problem!
Maybe you've heard this before. A lot of people know these things, but that's not enough. You must say "Yes" to Jesus!
The Bible says:
But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God. - John 1:12
Jesus gave you the best gift ever when He paid the penalty for your sin! He saved you! What are you going to do with that gift?
Imagine someone gave you a present, but you never opened it. Does the gift do you any good? No!
Jesus' gift to you works the same way. It's not enough to say you believe in His gift. It's not even enough to be happy about the gift. You have to choose to reach out and accept His gift and trust that it becomes yours!
Do you believe that Jesus, God's only Son, died for your sin and rose from the dead like the Bible says? If you said yes, you can accept His gift to you right now through prayer!
You can pray a prayer like this:
"Lord Jesus, I need You and I want to have a relationship with You. Thank you for dying for my sin and fixing my sin problem. I open the door of my life and accept You as my Savior and King. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me the gift of You being my perfect Friend here and in Heaven. Please take control of my life and help me be the kind of person You want me to be."
"In Jesus' name, Amen."
When you pray and accept Jesus as your Savior, God promises to come into your life! (Revelation 3:20)
NOTE: If you (or someone you know) prayed to accept Jesus as your Savior, you are a child of God! So now what? Getting to know God is a lot like getting to know a new friend- you spend time with Him by reading the Bible, praying to Him, and going to church.
WHY DOES IT MATTER?
Because God is Holy and I am not, only He can fix my sin problem. That's why Jesus, God's perfect Son, is the only answer to my sin problem! I must accept His gift in order to be saved from the consequence of my sin.
TALK WITH GOD AND STAY CONNECTED TO THE VINE!
Talk to God and thank Him for His perfect gift of Jesus! Thank Him that you can have a relationship with Him forever -- now and in Heaven!
