I like Thelma Wells’ description of a bumblebee.  She tells about the insect at the Outrageous Joy conferences, a conference for women held around the United States.

Thelma says that, aerodynamically speaking, bumblebees shouldn’t be able to fly.  Their bodies are too heavy for their narrow wingspan.  But the bumblebee doesn’t know it can’t fly.  And it doesn’t lie in bed asking, “Should I fly?”  No, the bumblebee just flies, doing what God intended for it to do.

Unlike the bumblebee, we as humans often get blinded by our own inadequacies.  Our finite minds get caught up in analyzing why we can’t do something.  We tell ourselves that we don’t have a certain talent or ability.  We tell God that He is asking the impossible of us.  Then we never get around to doing what God has intended for us to do.

God does not assign tasks to us because of our strength.  He assigns them based on Hisstrength.  The Bible gives us an encouraging word in Philippians 4:13:

I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.

God alone is our source of strength.

Where we are weak, He is strong. Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 12:9,

He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’  Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

In fact, it is when we are weak and accomplish great things in His power that we bring the greatest glory to His name.

Dear Friend, take it from the bumblebee:  Don’t spend your energy worrying about what you can and cannot do.  God made you, so He knows where you are weak.  Just follow where He leads and trust that whatever He asks you to do, He will give you the strength to do it.  Then give the glory for your accomplishments to Him.

Proclaim the power of God, whose majesty is over Israel, whose power is in the skies.  You are awesome, O God, in Your sanctuary; the God of Israel gives power and strength to His people.  Praise be to God!  (Psalm 68:34,35)
