There is a special person in my life, my very best friend, whom I would like for you to know as I do. He makes me glad. He fills my heart with joy. He inspires me with marvelous ideas. He energizes me. He surprises and blesses me daily. He listens when I need help. He has incredible wisdom and insight. When He speaks, it is as if a light goes on in my head and heart. He is my silent partner, and as a result I want everything I do to meet His approval. In fact, as I have gotten to know and have fellowship with Him since I met Him in 1945, I have come to the conviction that I do not want to do anything unless it is His idea. He is so tenderhearted, gracious, merciful, and kind that I never want to do anything that would displease or even disappoint Him.

Even when I feel a bit distant from Him, I have a great sense that He is still with me, that He will never leave me or turn His back on me. I can take to Him every challenge of my life—personal, professional, magnificent dreams and small worries, my joys, my unpleasantries, all of life’s praise, all of life’s problems—I share them with Him.

Just His presence is enough to keep me inspired and motivated. I am naturally shy and reserved; so many times in my life, if it were not for Him, I would have run away from opportunities, from meetings, and from trips. But because of Him, I have had the confidence to press ahead and see unbelievable, miraculous events unfold right before my eyes.

He was there when America saw the largest gathering of Christians in history for a training conference. More than 85,000 people per day for a week filled the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas. He was there when I spoke to three million people at one time in Seoul, Korea. I watched through tears mixed with the rain as one million people stood to express assurance of their salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. He was there in the precious moments when Vonette and I celebrated the arrival of our two sons, Zac and Brad. He was there when we decided that He should be not only our partner, but also the mastermind and general manager of everything we had or ever would have and everything we would ever do. He was with me in 1945 when He gave me a vision to produce a film on the life of Jesus. Since 1980, that film has been viewed by more than 5.25 billion persons in more than 850 languages. He was with me when I received the prestigious Templeton Prize of one million dollars for worldwide influence in religion. Recently, He has been with me in a series of hospitalizations and medical developments as I learned I have a terminal illness. I want you to know Him as I know Him because He has never failed me, whenever or whatever my need. He is not merely a help to me in surviving life’s troubles; He gives me supernatural power to transcend these difficulties and keep me joyful on the journey.

I say with King David of Israel:

“Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who trust in Him!” (Psalm 34:8). “Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of Your presence, Lord. They rejoice all day long in Your wonderful reputation. They exult in Your righteousness” (Psalm 89:15,16).

You can know my friend, the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ, in a personal, intimate way as never before. This knowledge is the greatest gift I can share with you. Determine now to spend time with Him, to get to know Him. Then give Him your life. With His help, we can give ourselves to helping fulfill the Great Commission each year until He returns to receive us unto Himself.

It matters not where you are on your spiritual journey. You may be an experienced and active servant of God, or you may be a new believer. You may never have given the Holy Spirit much thought, or you may know more about Him than a seminary scholar. Whatever your situation may be, the truth of God’s great love for us is irresistible.

I assure you that God wants you to have all the blessings He promises.

The Bible tells us that He has been waiting since the foundation of the universe to unfold the wonderful plans He has for you, and through the power of the Holy Spirit you can know and embrace those plans.

I pray that God will draw you closer to Himself, to fill you with His Spirit, and to send you on a ministry that will influence the world for Christ.

I pray too that God’s richest blessings and power will enhance your enjoyment of the wonderful presence and power of the Holy Spirit every moment for the rest of your life.
