Have you ever had something happen in your life that put everything in perspective for you?  Judy did.  Here is her story.

It was a busy, yet exciting time.  Judy was preparing for a relaxing vacation on a cruise ship.  As she checked off her long “to do” list, the phone rang.  Her husband and two sons had been in a terrible car accident.

Her boys were going to be alright, but her husband had been very seriously hurt.  He suffered twenty-two broken bones, and for a while the doctors weren’t sure he would live.  Thankfully, he did survive and in time recovered fully.

Since the accident, Judy has often thought about how simple she used to think her life was.  Now, she was discovering simplicity had new meaning.  When life had suddenly become a question of survival, few things seemed truly important.  All the peripheral issues that she was concerned about from day to day became insignificant.

So, what did Judy discover was truly important to her?  Four things:  the Lord, His Word, His people, and the precious time she had with her family.  Everything else fell way down on the list.

In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus tells us what He considers to be truly important: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind…Love your neighbor as yourself.”  Loving God first and then loving others are the two greatest commandments that He gave us.  These are simple commands that, if followed, will have a profound impact on your life and the world around you.

Friend, what’s important to you?  Does your lifestyle reflect this perspective?  Don’t wait for something catastrophic to happen to start living the way God wants you to live.  Don’t be burdened with the cares of this world, but be set free because of the great love God has shown you for all eternity.  Start right now.

“Whom have I in heaven but you?  And earth has nothing I desire besides You.”
